Bioethics and the Christian Life

Calvary United Reformed Church is pleased to invite you to attend a one-day conference featuring Dr. David VanDrunen.  Dr. VanDrunen is the Robert B. Strimple Professor of Systematic Theology and Ethics at Westminster Seminary California, a licensed attorney, and ordained Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. Dr. VanDrunen is one of the leading experts and authors in this fascinating and intriguing field. Most notably he is the author of Bioethics and The Christian Life - which serves as the backdrop for this thought provoking, helpful, and practical conference.

Few topics are as pressing and important in the Christian life as beginning of life and end of life questions. They need to be faced with godly wisdom, in light of Scripture, and they need to be faced before the crisis arrives (as it surely will for all of us).  We will consider topics such as: abortion, in vitro fertilization, frozen embryos, adoption, refusing treatment, stopping treatment, persistent vegetative states, hospice, etc? Certainly there are some guard rails that guide the Christian in these decisions which must be noted, however, there are also many areas which call for wisdom and discernment. The conference is designed to address both and assist us in knowing the difference.

We often say that we will think about these things 'SOME DAY' - or we think that we will 'cross that bridge when we get to it.' Dr. VanDrunen builds an excellent case for cultivating virtues and wisdom as a way of life before the 'some day of crisis arives.'

If you do not have a home church we invite you to attend the Divine Service at Calvary United Reformed Church on Sunday, May 15th. Dr. VanDrunen will be preaching and leading worship at the morning service (10:00 a.m.) and the evening service (6:00 p.m.).
